I was too young to remember the Summer of Love while it was happening, but two years later, I sure remember my summer! My youngest sister was born and I was SO glad she arrived. I learned how to care for a baby and I truly believe that the experience of caring for her when I was 10 is where my love of babies began. To this day, I LOVE infants! I spend three hours per week holding newborn preemies in the NICU at a local hospital. I get a baby fix every week! There is an endless supply of warm snuggly babies for me! You see, even though I had 4 babies of my own, a busy mom doesn't have time to just sit and rock her baby a whole lot--now I have that time!
To celebrate my sister, I created this card with the 60's in mind. She and her husband have recently purchased and old VW Van that they plan to restore. I found the cute gift box at World Market and put a little goodie inside for her. This is where I found my inspiration for the birthday card. The card has FLOWER POWER, which I created using the 1-1/4" Scallop Punch with Whisper White card stock. The centers are 3/4" circles punched in Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie, Tempting Turquoise and Melon Mambo. I topped them with Brights Buttons, which my Pal Linda Callahan reminded me look like records with all those groves. Another GROOVY nod to the 60's! I had Flower Power stickers on my headboard that looked a lot like these flowers!
I remember that my sister loved the SMILEY FACES when she was a toddler, so instead of putting a "Happy Birthday" sentiment on the front, I stamped "smile" from the Happy Day stamp set. Another flower power accent punched from the Boho Blossoms punch and a basic rhinestone anchors the Chalk Talk framelits banner.
I added a little piece of groovy-looking Quatrefancy Designer Series Paper to the envelope flap for more color. Happy Summer and Happy Birthday to my little sister!
I hope you enjoyed my card today and that you are having a fantastic first day of summer! I'll be enjoying some pool time and hoping my granddaughter arrives soon! Another baby to hold!
What are YOU doing to celebrate summer? Won't you leave me a comment and let me know?

Cute card Patti. Made me smile. What a great recollection of the 60's. It made me think of the show Mod Squad. I'm betting your sister will love it!!! The Quatrefancy paper was a great one to use for the envelope. How cute is that gift box too! Thanks for sharing. You always come up with some awesome ideas.

Hello to a fellow stamper/baby rocker. I do the same thing at one of our local hospitals. What joy! It is definitely one of the highlights of my week!
